Despite the name of this age-old iconic dish, the secret to having a great sloppy atmosphere is its thick, rich, almost dry consistency, allowing the sandwich to be eaten with your hands. Serve it on hamburger bun.
* Ingredients :
° 1 pound of lean ground beef
° ½ onion diced
° 2 cloves minced garlic
° 1 green pepper cut into cubes
° 1 cup water
° Half a cup of ketchup
° 1 dash of Worcestershire sauce
° 2 tablespoons brown sugar
° 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
° 1 ½ tsp salt, OR to taste
° Half teaspoon ground black pepper
° 1 cup water
° Pinch of cayenne pepper, to taste
1
Put the minced meat and onions in a large skillet. Bring to a boil over medium heat, and cook, stirring constantly, until meat is cooked through and forms small crumbs, about 10 minutes.
Step 2
Add garlic and green pepper. Cook, stirring, until softened, 2 to 3 minutes. Add a cup of water and stir, scraping the pan to dissolve any bits of brown flavor from the bottom of the pan.
Step 3
Mix ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, salt and black pepper. Add another cup of water and bring the mixture back to a slow boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until liquid has evaporated and mixture has thickened, about 40 minutes.
Step 4
Season with salt, black pepper and hot pepper to taste.
Enjoy !
